Fitness App

2021

Purpose: This app was created to provide access to great home workouts.

Audience: The target audience is anybody looking to exercise, from people looking for a quick cardio workout to daily strength trainers.

Processes: I created wireframes, made simple style guides for color and font selection, then designed the final product and branding material.

Workouts Page, Home Page, and an Example Workout

The home page was designed to help motivate people, allowing them to quickly see the number of workouts they have already completed as well as being able to pick up on their previous incomplete workouts easily. Once the user selects their desired workout program, they would be able to view written and visual instructions on each exercise as well as the amount of time spent or repetitions needed.

Mood Board

I looked at different tones of blue and what color would be an appropriate accent. I chose a light purple ‘lilac’ tone to compliment the blue because it provides a more elegant and grounded feel. For the typography, I looked at various options and landed on Gilroy as the primary font.

Wireframes

Final wireframes that helped me decide the placement of elements on each page of the app.

Branding Material

This image could be used as branding material. It could be used to promote the app on social media platforms or on the app store.

Reflection

What went well?

I was able to apply design principles and processes I have learned throughout my UI/UX courses directly to the app via the mood board and wireframes. I was happy with the final layout of the home page, and how it successfully encourages the user to continue previous workouts or learn from a new program.

What could I have improved?

I could have shared the application with my friends and roommates to see if the design was effective and if any modifications were required. Feedback can be an important tool for improving functionality for the user.

What lessons did I learn?

  • Using the mood board and color palette for the design made the process simpler and more streamlined

  • Having attention to detail and not being afraid to keep iterating on layouts and wireframes
